A defiant Indian cricket board chief N Srinivasan went about business as usual on Thursday, beginning with a leisurely morning walk in Chennai even as calls for his resignation over the T20 League spot-fixing and betting scandal grew louder.
More voices of dissent emerged from within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), citing the need for "fairness".
Srinivasan's son-in law Gurunath Meiyappan, until a few days ago the team principal of Chennai Super Kings, has been arrested in connection with the betting scandal.
"He has to resign, there is no other option. How can you continue when your son-in-law is involved…," said Goa Cricket Association vice-president Shekhar Salkar.
He added Srinivasan should step down, at least, till the probe into the matter — by a three-member BCCI commission — was completed.
Assam Cricket Association president Gautam Roy said, "In the interest of fairness, he should step aside till the investigation is on."
Srinivasan, who has ignored all appeals to quit, is apparently confident he has numbers on his side and cannot be pushed out (see box) of the board.
The demand for Srinivasan to "stay away" from the probe has also come from BCCI bigwigs such as Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association chief Jyotiraditya Scindia, the T20 league’s chairperson Rajeev Shukla and board vive-president Arun Jaitley.
