MANY OFFICIALS of the four-star Devi Ahilya Vishwa Vidyalaya (DAVV), including Vice Chancellor Dr Rajkamal, now feel that the incident that occurred on Wednesday was not unexpected under the prevailing circumstances.
Dr Rajkamal today said, “I could feel something brewing from the past few days. The outcome though annoying was expected. The naming of an employee irritated the union and their office-bearers, bowing down to political pressure from within the organisation, acted in this way.”
Dr Rajkamal had to face the ire of staff when his bid to revamp the functioning of the university and making it more student and visitor-friendly pricked certain sections. His approach to work that included surprise checks and prompt action had annoyed some people, both in teaching and non-teaching quarters.
The Gair Shikshak Karmchari Sangh on Wednesday created a ruckus after a colleague facing action from the V-C fainted in his cabin and was rushed to hospital.
However, on learning that the colleague is safe they have changed tack and maintain that they did not wish to let the matter get out of hand. Resultantly, a strange silence prevailed in the university today.

{{/usCountry}}Apart form senior varsity officials, even employee union leaders agree that yesterday’s incident was a reaction to the action of the V-C by displaying intent of acting on a complaint made by a student without even verifying facts.
A senior functionary on condition of anonymity said that they had no wish to surround the V-C or shout but it happened probably because of pent up emotions.
