Traffic movement on all major roads connecting Gurgaon and Delhi, including the Gurgaon Expressway and M.G. Road, came to a standstill on Wednesday evening, after it rained mildly. Commuters could reach home only post-midnight, after being stranded in traffic jams for seven-eight hours.
Bhagwat Lohia, a Gurgaon resident, started off from his Nehru Place office for his Gurgaon home at 5.15 pm but could only make it by 12.45 am.
Another Gurgaon resident Michael Marcyr, said he left his Faridabad office at 5 p.m. but could make it to M.G. Road by 8 p.m. “I reached home at 12.20 pm. Both the roads connecting Faridabad with Gurgaon were totally choked with traffic.”
Officials of the district administration and civic agencies were clueless about what resulted in the traffic jams.
“There was not much waterlogging on M.G. Road; the traffic jam spilled over from Delhi roads,” said Rajesh Khullar, commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG).
On Thursday, Khullar, HUDA administrator Nitin K Yadav and joint commissioner of police Alok Mittal conducted a joint survey of the Hero Honda crossing and other roads connecting the Gurgaon Expressway.
Khullar said the number of water pump sets at the Hero Honda crossing would be increased to get rid of waterlogging.
