Reach the venue at least by 8.30 am to avoid getting caught in traffic jams caused by security bandobast in the wake of US President George Bush’s visit and the scores of protest rallies set off by it.

Bush is expected to visit Rajghat on March 2 at about 9 am. There will be a massive security cover on the stretch between Sardar Patel Marg and Rajghat the route from where Bush’s motorcade will pass. Security agencies are understood to have decided to seal the stretch.

The motorcade is expected to pass through SP Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Chanakyapuri, India Gate and ITO to reach Rajghat. According to police sources, both the carriageways will be sealed to traffic. “The roads are officially closed for 15-20 minutes for the Prime Minister’s cavalcade. For Bush too, similar arrangements are being made,” a senior police official said.

But effectively, one can expect roads to remain out of bounds for over 30 minutes. “It is best if students reach the exam centres by 8.30 am to prevent getting caught in the traffic,” said a police official. “My students will appear for their exams at the Air Force School (Subroto Park).

I have asked all of them to start early. Some principals have decided to let students in even if they are late. Why should children suffer because of VIP movement?” said Sanskriti School principal Gouri Ishwaran.
