State readies plan to check crime against women.

The Haryana government has prepared an action plan of about `215 crore for strengthening measures to curb crime against women in the state. Additional chief secretary (home) Samir Mathur said in a release on Friday that the plan had been prepared to provide funds under the 'nirbhaya scheme' of the central government.

The Haryana government has prepared an action plan of about Rs 215 crore for strengthening measures to curb crime against women in the state.

Additional chief secretary (home) Samir Mathur said in a release on Friday that the plan had been prepared to provide funds under the 'nirbhaya scheme' of the central government.

He said that the action plan consisted of setting up of exclusive women police stations, PCRs manned by women, establishment of anti-human trafficking units, outdoor surveillance system, victim counselling centres, women and child desks in police stations, police community liaison, creating awareness and providing self- defence training, increasing the strength of women police, protection officer under Domestic Violence Act for each police station, augmentation of DNA analysis facility, besides others.

Mathur said according to the plan, one women police station would be created in all 21 districts of the state equipped with all the facilities including vehicle, furniture, arms and ammunition, computers along with peripherals.

He said that under the plan one vehicle cost would be provided to each of the other 267 police stations for use by the women police staff for preventive patrolling, timely and quality response to crime against women, including counselling victims, taking them to the court for hearings, use by protection officers under the Domestic Violence Act.
