In two separate operations on Saturday, UP Special Task Force (STF) sleuths nabbed two sharpshooters of fugitive underworld don Chhota Rajan gang in Muzaffarnagar and gunned down a gangster in an exchange of fire in Barabanki.
While one of the arrested Rajan gang members -- Shamsher was wanted in a case of murder being investigated by CBI, the criminal killed in encounter in Barabanki -- Munna Tiwari was carrying rewards of Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 from UP and Madhya Pradesh (MP) police, respectively, for past one year.
In Muzaffarnagar, the STF team led by Deputy SP S Anand and sub-inspector (S-I) Vinay Gautam laid a trap near Canal Bridge on Laksar Road in Purkazi area following a tip-off. They caught the two suspects walking towards the crossing to catch a taxi.
The duo was identified as Murad Khan of Varanasi and Shamsher Khan of Bhadohi. Two country-made firearms and cartridges were recovered from the possession of the accused.
Anand said Murad and Shamsher earlier were attached with Bhadohi-based mafia don Udaibhan alias Doctor, whose membership from state assembly was declared invalid after being convicted in a case of murder in 2006.
Shamsher confessed to have executed about half-a-dozen contract killings between the year 2000 and 2005 at behest of Udaibhan. The latter had got Rakesh Pandey at Gopiganj in Bhadohi killed by Shamsher. The CBI is probing the case and Shamsher was declared wanted. He is also absconding in a case of PWD engineer Chaudhary's murder occurred in Roberstganj district three years back.
To evade the police action, Shamsher along with Murad had joined Chhota Rajan gang in Mumbai. They had come to Muzaffarnagar to purchase firearms when they landed in STF net.
In Barabanki, STF team led by ASP Manoj Kumar Jha intercepted two gangsters riding a motorcycle on Haidargarh Road around 2.15 pm. Seeing the armed men in plain clothes, one sitting on pillion seat opened fire. The police team too retaliated and killed one of the gangsters. The one driving the mobike succeeded giving cops the slip.
The killed gangster was identified as Anil Tiwari alias Munna Tiwari of Gopiganj, Bhadohi. A .32 bore revolver was recovered from possession of Tiwari.
Tiwari was wanted in case of robbing Rs 50 lakhs from LIC employees in Barabanki and killing another LIC staff member and decamping with money in Kanpur, both in 2007. Besides, he was also wanted from Seedhi district of MP for killing a LIC employee and robbing the cash on August 1, 2006.
