Adopting a combative stance for most of the three-hour long meeting, the members also protested the reportedly incomplete information regarding tender allotment for the second phase of the Bond Road project.

The subject of appointing members of the Ex-servicemen’s Welfare Board as security guards at the IMC office also came in for attack with certain MiC members demanding that tenders be invited from security agencies for filling the posts.

Leading the charge were Lal Bahadur Verma, who had earlier led a frontal attack on Municipal Commissioner P Narhari on the issue of departmental promotions and member in-charge of Rehabilitation and Planning Chandu Shinde. Shinde shocked the gathering when he directly accused City Engineer (Building Permission) Harbhajan Singh of taking bribes.

Verma, on the other hand took up cudgels on behalf of City Engineer H K Jain and City Engineer (Electrical and Mechanical) N S Tomar both of who were deemed unsuitable for a promotion by the departmental promotion committee, as they were being investigated for alleged irregularities.

“The DPC stalled the promotions of Tomar and Jain against whom there are no charges, but cleared the promotion of Mahendra Gupta who is currently in jail,” said Verma. “This is clearly absurd,” he added.
