Inaugurating the four-day Techkriti-06 festival at the IIT-K on Thursday, Dr Shanker said amidst globalisation and stiff competition, it had become necessary that innovative ideas in the future technologies be introduced and promoted without any delay. A little delay in this exercise could push the country several years behind, he added.

He said, “There is no dearth of talent and skill among engineering students but they lack motivation and aptitude for popularising their unique ideas.”

He said Techkriti-06 provided a right forum where the students could exhibit their innovative ideas and technological skills before the buyers of new technologies.

Dr Shanker also urged the sponsors of the festival that they should encourage students by adopting viable technologies they developed during a short period of their education at different engineering colleges.

Advising the innovators and users of new technologies, he said the new technology should be introduced with caution, keeping in mind that this might not affect the quality of life. The technologies should be applied for faster and smoother development without effecting the environment, he added.

Participants rushed to L-7 to take part in Scimatex-Techolypiad soon after the inauguration ceremony. The quiz on science and mathematics began from 9 pm and continued till 12 am. Over 20 colleges participated in the quiz.

Simultaneously in Baski court, over half-a-dozen teams displayed Robogames. The robots made by them played various games in the perfect manner. Besides, electric circuit designing competitions were also organised and students produced various kinds of power saving and power efficient electric circuits.
