Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday said the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led alliance in the Delhi Asembly elections would enable his party to play a greater role at the national level and this election would be a first step in that direction.

In the next step, the Akali Dal would make its presence felt in the Asembly elections in other neighbouring states, including Haryana. The Akali Dal is contesting four seats in Delhi in alliance with the BJP, including three on the symbol of the alliance partner.

Badal had campaigned in the national capital for the victory of the alliance in general and his party candidates in particular. Addressing a public meeting at Kabarwala, he said the Delhi elections had provided him the opportunity to interact with the people from other states and propagate the philosophy of the Akali Dal and its policies for the welfare of all sections of society. The response was very overwhelming.

Commenting on the state political scene, he asserted the Congress candidate from Bathinda in the Lok Sabha elections, who so ever he might be, would be made to lick the dirt. He said it was his challenge to the Congress.

He said he was like a son to the people in that area. He said development of the area had been accorded top priority.
