The decision has been taken by the state wildlife department. The park will remain under maintenance till August 31. According to officials, the number of visitors in this period is very less.

Also it is a breeding season for many birds. Last season too, the authorities had closed down the park for a few days to facilitate breeding.

A total of 36 different species of migratory birds that nested in the Sultanpur National Park have flown back to Siberia, Russia, East Asia and other regions of the world.

“More than 45,000 birds were seen in the park this season,” Kulwinder Singh, district forest officer (wildlife), said.

“Most of the migratory birds have left. The water levels have also receded. Only during lean season the maintenance work could be carried out," Singh added.
