Sun stroke deaths up to 28 in Orissa

Orissa continued to reel under scorching heat with the mercury touching 45.3 degrees Celsius in Angul The number of deaths due to sun stroke mounted to 28, officials said on Wednesday.

While a heat related death was reported from Khurda district, reports of another person dying due to sun stroke was received from Jagatsinghpur, they said.

Most parts of the state reeled under severe heat coupled with high humidity.

The industrial belt of Angul recorded maximum temperature of 45.3 degrees Celsius followed by Sambalpur (44.8 Celsius) and Sundargarh (44.5 Celsius), the Meteorological office said.

The capital city Bhubaneswar recorded a high of 40.7 degrees Celsius, while in neighbouring Cuttack it was 40.6 Celsius.
