The Delhi Police are soon likely to question Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar in connection with the murder of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
Tarar had recently, in a TV interview, said that she was ready to help in the probe into the mysterious death of Sunanda. “If they want to ask me anything...If they want to ask me any question...I can answer,” Tarar had told a news channel.
Sunanda, 52, was found dead in mysterious circumstances at a posh south Delhi hotel on January 17, 2014, a day after her Twitter spat with Tarar over an alleged affair with Tharoor.
Police sources said since being a Pakistani they cannot summon Tarar, they have prepared a detailed questionnaire to be sent to her through formal channels. “Tarar being a foreign national can’t be summoned to India. However, through the intervention of court and ministry of external affairs, we will ask her to participate in the proceedings for clarity in the case,” said a senior police official.
Senior officials in the Delhi police claimed that Tarar’s version will help them establish the sequence of events in the run-up to Sunanda’s death.
In his recorded statement, Tharoor’s domestic help Narayan Singh told police that on January 15, 2014, when Sunanda was unwell, Tharoor left without saying anything, which agitated her. “Madam gusse se boli ki sahib ko chhodungi nahi, unhone Mehr ko mere pichle pati ke bare mein sab bata diya hai (Madam angrily said, I will not spare him, he told Mehr everything about my ex-husband),” says the statement. {{/usCountry}}In his statement, Singh had also mentioned that the couple had a similar argument on the morning of January 17, the day Sunanda was found dead. Singh has claimed that the duo had a long argument that continued between 12:30am and 4:30am.
Investigating officials while speaking with HT claimed the identity of Katty is also being ascertained. Days before Sunanda died, the couple had an argument over a woman named ‘Katty’.
