Instead of war rhetorics, ways to resolve the lingering Kashmir issue and to herald peace in the sub-continent should dominate national debates, PDP patriach Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said.

"Surgical strikes or an outright war with Pakistan are out of place these days. Instead, resolution of the Kashmir issue and ushering peace in the sub-continent shall dominate debates in the country," he said.

With Lok Sabha elections round the corner, major political players or alliances should desist from scoring brownie points by portraying themselves as more hawkish on the terror front, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said.

Instead, they should be more forward-looking, peace-loving and development-oriented in their approach and ensure that Mumbai terror attacks should not act as roadblocks in solving the Kashmir problem, he said.
