A local court remanded the five suspected activists of the banned Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in judicial custody till August 30 after the five-day police custody ended on Wednesday.

The five suspects, who were arrested under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act on August 16, were produced before Paravoor Chief Judicial Magistrate Sujetha and remanded back to judicial custody, police said.
They are Saduli (24), Abdul Aziz (27), Shammi (20), all from Kottayam district, and Anzar (25) and Nizammudin (24), both from Aluva. They were among the 14, who were taken into custody for interrogation.
The court had granted five days' police custody of the suspects to facilitate further interrogation on August 17.
