In a move which could spell trouble for Rajasthan Royals players S Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan, the Delhi Police on Tuesday urged the court to cancel their bail following the filing of the chargesheet in the case.
“Investigation has moved forward after they secured bail. Now their bail needs to be considered afresh on merits in the face of evidence heaped against them in the chargesheet,” said public prosecutor Rajiv Mohan.
The court would consider the plea on Wednesday.
A court had granted bail to the two players and other bookies on June 10, saying there is no reason that they should be booked under MCOCA.
The connection
The court had said prima facie there was “no sufficient material” against the accused to establish their “nexus” with organised crime syndicate.
“But now we have sufficient evidence against the players and bookies of their involvement in organised crime syndicate and it is enumerated in the chargesheet,” said Mohan.
Slammed by the defence and court, the police also dropped Section 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant), slapped against the players on May 21. The court had asked as to how the players and bookies could be called public servants.

{{/usCountry}}“RR said it had entered into an agreement with the 3 players stipulating that they will abide by the rules laid by ICC, BCCI and IPL. But the players had indulged in acts as per their own will with a personal motive and to make individual gains violating the contract and thereby section 409 is clearly made out”, the police had argued earlier, justifying Section 409.
The charges, if proven together with section 120 B (criminal conspiracy) for under which they have already been booked, could have got them life imprisonment.
