“Talks are on about the alliance and when the final decision would be taken, it would be disclosed,” Mukherjee said after a meeting of the state Congress Election Committee in which two central party leaders Mukul Wasnik and K Keshava Rao were present.

Which party would get how many seats would depend on whether the alliance itself would come into being, he said.

Mukherjee said TC’s massive win in the Bishnupur (West) assembly bypoll clearly proved that “anti-left people in the state want it would be good if there was no split in the Opposition votes.”

On the basis of the discussions today, the WBPCC election committee would prepare the list of the candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, Mukherjee said.

It has been decided that the first two phases- the Pradesh election committee shortlisting names of candidates and sending them to the central screening committee- would have to be completed by March 7.

Later, the Central Election Committee would meet on March seven or thereafter where the decision would be taken on state-wide lists.
