Eight persons were killed and many injured after crackers exploded at a fireworks manufacturing unit near here today, police said.

Eight persons were killed and many injured after crackers exploded at a fireworks manufacturing unit near Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu on Friday, police said.

The workers were at work in the unit at Olukacheri when the crackers exploded suddenly.

The injured were rushed to a hospital.

Kumbakonam, in Thanjavur district, is around 280km from Chennai.
