Teachers? shortage hits BRD Medical College
WITH THE retirement of two professors, including the principal of BRD Medical College, the crisis due to the shortage of teachers in the college has deepened. Acting principal Dr RD Mukhija retired on May 30 and former principal of the college Dr OP Singh again took over as acting principal.

The Medical College has suffered another set back when the government had transferred the principal of the college Saudan Singh. He was appointed as director of Rural Post-graduate Institute at Saifai. A full-time principal to Medical College was a distant dream for the people. Saudan Singh has joined the office as full- fledged principal of the college in June last year. He was transferred in December last year and Dr RD Mukhija has taken over the charge as an acting principal of the college.
The ad hoc principal has limited powers and the college is on the mercy of an ad hoc principal for a long time. In his five-month tenure, Dr Mukhija not only invited much-awaited Medical Council of India team for inspection of the college but has also taken steps to do away with the mess the college was in.
Besides Dr Mukhija, head of the Surgery Department Dr RP Jina also retired from his service. His retirement may hit the health services at the medical college.
Though Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had promised to enhance the length of the services of professors, no order came from the government in this regard.
Sources said that there were three senior professors in the race of the post of acting principal of the college. They included former principal Dr OP Singh, Dr Om Prakash and Dr AK Rathi but Dr OP Singh managed to regain the charge of the principal officer.
