In an effort to ward off action against their colleagues, association's members staged a dharna at Rani Laxmibai Park . MLC Dr YD Singh and about 100 teachers participated in the dharna, but the police failed to arrest them.

The teachers' body has also stepped up its agitation against the education dept officials. State president of UP Primary Teachers' Association Abhimanyu Tiwari said the teachers of the Gorakhpur division would stage a demonstration at the Joint Director's office on July 22 to show their strength and to intensify their agitation against prevailing corruption in the department.

He claimed that state president of Sharma group Omprakash Sharma, secretary Panchanan Rai and Dr YD Singh would participate in the dharna.

The teachers' body strongly condemned the police raids on the residents of accused office-bearers Markandey Singh and Dinesh Nayak.

They warned that the administration should stop harassment of the teachers otherwise they would face the dire consequences. District president of the Primary Teachers Association Janardhan Tiwari, Shriram Singh, Manmohan Shahi, Gyanendra Ojha and Anoop Srivastav also expressed their views in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the education department employees handed over a memorandum to the additional district magistrate, demanding arrest of the accused teachers and condemned the dilly-dallying tactics of the police and district administrations on this issue.

Divisional president of the UP Educational Ministerial Officer' Association Rajesh Chand Srivastava said resentment was brewing among the employees over manhandling of the joint director.
