Urvashi Dhavale, who worked with a private firm, was on her way home in Pashan after visiting her mother when she was murdered, the police said.

“There were few injury marks on her head and body. The police also found a knife cover near the body,” said Inspector Nandkishore Bhosale-Patil.

The police suspect her husband Arvind Gadole — she was his second wife — who lives in Nagpur. They had been separated for some time.

The Nagpur police have detained Gadole for preliminary inquiry.

Bhosale-Patil said Dhavale and her husband were fighting over a flat in Pune in court. She had also filed a case against him under the domestic violence Act. “There was some tension between the two over the possession of a flat,” said Bhosale-Patil.

The police registered case of murder after the victim’s sister Ujjwala Kulkarni lodged a complaint.
