Technical institutes told to build hostels for SC/ST students

The Punjab government has told all government and aided technical institutes in the state to build hostels for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) students in their respective institutions which are availing facilities provided by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The Punjab government has told all government and aided technical institutes in the state to build hostels for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) students in their respective institutions which are availing facilities provided by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Stating this here on Monday, an official spokesman said the AICTE had come out with a scheme for government and aided institutes approved by the council with more than 150 SC/ST students on their rolls to provide funding of Rs 2 crore for the construction of hostels. He said this step had been taken to enhance the enrolment of SC/ST students and to improve the quality of education and research capabilities.

The spokesman said all eligible institutes had been directed to avail the scheme for immediate implementation.
