VICE-CHANCELLOR of Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow Prof Durg Singh Chauhan on Friday stressed the need for better technical management to save electricity in the interest of the nation. Inaugurating the two-day seminar at Madan Mohan Malviya Engineering College on ‘Electric Power Technology Management and Its Application’, Chauhan said that students of electric engineering could play a vital role in the emerging scenario.

He admitted that there was a wide gap between demand and supply of power. Technical management could reduce the gap he said and called upon the youth to create awareness among the people to save power.
Divisional Commissioner Arvind Kumar said there was no shortage of power and stressed the need to improve the transmission and distribution system. He said the line loss in distribution could improve power supply. Arvind Kumar said the State Government had taken an initiative for setting up a new power generation unit in Shrinagar, Uttaranchal and in Pariksha, besides extension of various existing units but it would take some time to start power generation.
Presiding over the seminar, principal of the college Dr Pratap Singh threw light on the latest technology for conserving power. Prof SC Srivastav from IIT Kanpur said that availability of power would be a challenge to the young generation.

Participants from Nagpur, Bangalore and Kurushetra will deliver their views in the seminar.
