One of the accused had been nursing a grudge against Kumar over some issue.

On Saturday night, when the accused got wind of Kumar being at a religious function, he went for a showdown with three of his friends. He called Kumar out and went to a secluded place nearby.

An ensuing verbal argument soon turned physical, with the victim being taken on by the four. The scuffle ended with Kumar being shot, allegedly from being fired at by main accused. Kumar had been hit in the neck and the head and was left bleeding.

He was subsequently discovered by passers-by and was taken to the civil hospital by police, where he was declared brought dead.

After police handed over the body of the victim to his parents, they blocked the NH-10 outside Meham police station. Stones were pelted at police vehicles and after use of force, the agitators were dispelled and the highway was reopened. Family members barged into one of the accused's house and torched two vehicles.
