Telangana tension: top 10 T-bill episodes

The controversial T-Bill is expected to cause more uproar in the House after its unprecedented stint in Lok Sabha and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's resignation. We put together the top 10 newsmakers leading to the state formation.

The Telangana tussle has reached Rajya Sabha now. The controversial bill is expected to cause more uproar in the House after its unprecedented stint in Lok Sabha and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's resignation.

The passage of the bill has been nothing short of dramatic. We put together the top 10 newsmakers during the process of Telangana formation.

Meira Kumar makes haste
After repeated unparliamentary conduct over the bill, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar seemed to have taken matters into her own hands. Her decision to allegedly ignore the demand to vote made by the Opposition members raised quite a few eyebrows.

"The bill has been passed in an illegal way, we will complain to the President why division was not allowed," said a miffed TMC chief Mamata Bannerjee.

But the curious bill, a controversy's child, didn't stop at the fingers being pointed at the Speaker.

Modi's phone call
BJP's PM nominee Narendra Modi may have acted as a strong influence in the Telangana decision. Modi's phone call to party leaders after his meeting with Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday prompted a three-hour-long meet at Advani's house.

Sonia's role

Sonia Gandhi has championed the Telangana cause with much rigour. She met BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu and sought his party's support for the passage of the bill.

Pepper spray, violence in Parliament

Expelled Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal used pepper spray in the House during the session on the Telangana bill. Chaos followed with MPs attacking each other. TDP MP Venugopal Reddy reportedly brandished a 'knife', which later turned out to be a broken microphone.

Speaker Meira Kumar said the incident "shamed" the Indian democracy.

16 MPs suspended

Following the shocking display of unparliamentary language and behaviour, 16 members of Parliament were suspended. A display of democracy or not, the Telangana bill saw new lows.

Ministers march to Delhi

CM Kiran Reddy brought the anti-Telangana cause to Delhi and met President Pranab Mukherjee.
"We requested the President to use his power to ensure that there is no division (of the state)... We requested that the state should be kept united," said a purposeful Reddy.

Jaganmohan Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu also visited Delhi over the same united Andhra agenda.

'House has been adjourned'
The winter session has seen washed out proceedings in the Parliament over the Telangana bill.

"Trouble started in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha as soon as they met for the day, leading to adjournments. Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon and then till Friday. Rajya Sabha was also adjourned, first till noon, then till 2pm and finally for the day."

Andhra chief minister Reddy quits

N Kiran Kumar Reddy resigned from his post as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh to protest the UPA decision of bifurcating the state and creating Telangana, the 29th Indian state.
