Use of scrubbers would be mandatory for Tempos in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan besides Agra, Mathura, Ferozabad and Hathras districts of UP, a Rajasthan Transport department official said here today.

He said the decision to fix scrubbers, which remove acid gas particulates from combustion waste, was taken at a high- level meeting on the Taj Mahal convened by the Centre recently.

Scrubbers not only act as silencers but also collect carbon particles in the engine chambers, he said adding that the move would help contain air-pollution levels in the region around the 17th century monument.
