Governor and Chancellor Dr Balram Jakhar ordered the high-level inquiry keeping in view the serious nature of allegations of irregularities against the V-C. Former chief secretary K S Sharma heads the three-member committee. The other members of the committee are retired IPS official G S Mathur and retired bureaucrat J P Vyas.

Raj Bhavan sources said that now the committee is expected to submit its report by month-end. The tenure was extended because the scope of inquiry was quite detailed involving checking of large number of documents.

Raj Bhavan had received a number of complaints of irregularities by Prof Vajpayee from various quarters. The charges were divided into three heads – administrative, financial and academic – and explanation was sought from the Vice-Chancellor on the charges. Following receipt of his comments, the Chancellor decided to institute the inquiry to bring the truth in the matter to fore.
