The Forum for IT workers is contemplating legal action against TCS to fight its mass termination after a pregnant woman employee moved the Madras high court against the “illegal termination” and secured a temporary reprieve.

The court on Tuesday issued an interim injunction against the implementation of the order that informed the employee, Sumati (name changed), to be prepared for full and final settlement by January 21.

The company, in news for ordering the removal of over 20,000 employees across its offices in India, had also asked Sumati to return the official laptop.

Similar orders were served to several employees in Chennai and other locations, Parimala S, coordinator of the forum said. Sumati’s lawyer Rama Priya, said, “As a strategy, we had moved an industrial dispute with the designated labour officer on Monday and moved the HC on Tuesday hoping that the company be restrained from giving effect to its order before the industrial dispute was disposed of,” the lawyer said.
