The many layers of style

On the last day of Lakme Fashion Week, Wendell Rodricks (for Westside) swept the runway with storm (or should I say breeze?) with a lineup of some of the best I have seen in fashion weeks. Imagine a viscose knitted sari with a ‘built-in’ choli... now that’s something no one has seen and he pulled it off in style. His six-layered, loosely woven unbleached raw cotton dresses and camisoles were something to see...and wear!

Narendra Kumar, on the other hand, presented his collection for Westside by using young college girls as models. And it worked. The show was vibrant, with the girls hooting and cheering on the ramp wearing denims, dresses, hooded dresses, short layered denim skirts, etc.

Young Rimzim Dadu is getting better with every season. Her collection — with innovative pieces coming out like metallic cut out dress, chiffon tops and pleated skirts with burnt sequins and hand burnt sequin dress — really stood out this time. She is someone to lookout for each time.

Yet another stylish collection came from Kallol Dutta, with wrap dresses, lopsided dresses and sack dresses. Preeti Chandra came out with some interesting ones, especially in whites.

And the drama unfolded when Tarun Tahiliani unveiled his Grand Finale collection. Backdrops moved, chandlieres moved up in position and the models, a huge lineup, walked on to the ramp.

His collection consisting saris draped in silk georgettes, tunics, lehengas, jackets and jodhpur pants, bandgalas...were all done in style and opulence barring, perhaps, a red silk velvet blouse (worn with tuille embroidered sari) that looked a bit ill fitting and bulky on the model. Nonetheless, the presentation was impressive.
