There is life, and job, after Tihar

After five years spent behind bars, Kaushal Choudhary now has the job of a field officer with a monthly salary of Rs 4,000, reports Basant Kumar Mohanty.

Whoever thought dreams died behind the iron bars of prisons has not been to Tihar Jail. Inmates here are walking out of their prison cells to a dignified professional life.

Kaushal Choudhary, charged with murder and currently out on bail, was interviewed and recruited by DRS Logistics, a Hyderabad-based transport company, while he was an undertrial period in Tihar Jail.

After five years spent behind bars, he now has the job of a field officer with a monthly salary of Rs 4,000. “People did not have faith in me since I was a prisoner. But now I am happy that I have a job," the 26-year-old said.

Choudhary completed his graduation in the jail last year through a correspondence course run by the Delhi University.

Take Sanjaya Kumar Dingra. Accused in a murder case, he was acquitted by a court recently and has joined the transport company as a painter with a salary of over Rs 3,000 a month.
