Righty titled ‘Expressions’ the exhibition indeed expresses the naive thoughts of little painters. The beautiful works of these underprivileged painters, studying at an NGO-run school, Saksham Bal Vikas Sanstha are on display at the Galaxy Hotel in Gurgaon. The exhibition will be on till September 30.
Around 28 paintings are on display depicting the innocent thoughts of children of daily wage labourers.
“If you take a look at them, it may seem very amateur. You need to know the story behind every painting to appreciate and understand it,” said Neelima Sharma, founder of Saksham.
One of the students, Virender Ram, 14, painted a face with different colour stripes. “I made the face looking at my own. I have used various colours to capture different moods,” said Ram whose painting was called ‘Self-Portrait’.
For Aprajita ishwakarma, 11, the canvas and paints are a medium of expression as she can speak out through them.
“I always dream of going to The Shri Ram School. I have heard that it is a very big school,” she said about her painting titled ‘My Dream School’.
The paintings are up on sale and have been priced between R3,000 to R8,000. “The money will be credited in to the account of these children. At least this will generate a good habit of saving in them,” added Sharma.

{{/usCountry}}Such an activity, introduced six months ago in the school, has shown the children a positive path.
“I want to become a painter when I grow up. At present I find difficulty in drawing noses. I know, by trying I will learn to draw it one day,” said eight year old Yogender.
