This refers to the report Chidambaram hints at action against Geelani (October 23). It is unfortunate that Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and activists like Arundhati Roy are vociferously promoting secession from India, saying ‘azadi the only way’. All these people, including Geelani, are Indian nationals and subject to its laws. Preaching secession is sedition, a crime which must be dealt with.

Prevention, rather than cure

The editorial In sickness, not in health (Our Take, October 23) rightly pointed out that our public health system is disappointing and the government is not doing anything to improve it. The government should focus on preventive rather than curative healthcare. Well-displayed advertisements on health and hygiene can prevent disease. Building public toilets and better drainage where the poor live can also stem the spread of diseases.

No end to terror’s trail

The report Pak gets $2bn from the US (October 23) is a matter of grave concern. The US is donating millions of dollars in the name of fighting terrorism. Over the last decade, the world has seen that no amount of aid to Pakistan has helped diminish terrorism. India must convince the US that it is a futile exercise to corner terrorists by giving military and financial aid to Pakistan.

Bring the powerful to book

With reference to All agencies will cooperate in probe: Shunglu (October 23), corruption involving the mighty can never be proved. The taxpayers will have to bear the expenses of Shunglu and his staff for years.
