BJP patriarch LK Advani on Monday praised chief minister Narendra Modi for the development work done in Gujarat, three days after the party overlooked his reservations to name the latter as the prime ministerial candidate.

“Today, if he (Modi) has been entrusted with the responsibility of the country by my party BJP, then all the good tasks undertaken by our governments in various states would be carried out all over the country,” Advani told mediapersons in Korba, 225km from here. These were his first public remarks after he revolted against the Modi move.

Advani stood virtually isolated in his opposition to the Gujarat strongman. In the last two days, a string of senior party leaders called on him to apparently defuse the situation. His Monday’s remarks are likely to be read as an acceptance of the fact that the saffron party had entered the Modi era.

The BJP leader was also quick to praise Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his Chhattisgarh counterpart Raman Singh.

He was in Korba to inaugurate a 500-MW unit of the state-owned Hasdeo Thermal Power Plant extension project.
