Three insurgents killed in Manipur encounter

Three insurgents were killed in a gunbattle with police in Imphal West district on Friday, officials said.

The insurgents hurled a powerful grenade at the commandos when they were asked to stop for checking by the police who were carrying out frisking operations at Kwakeithel Heinou Khongnembi area, about six kilometres from Imphal on Friday morning.

In the ensuing encounter, three insurgents were killed on the spot, officials said.

Some arms were recovered from the possession of the victims who were yet to be identified.

The bodies have been sent to regional institute of medical science and hospital for post mortem, the sources said.
