Three Maoists killed in Andhra encounter

Three Maoists were killed on Sunday in an exchange of fire with police in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh.

Three Maoists, including a woman, were killed on Sunday in Nallamalla forest area bordering Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh in an exchange of fire with police.

There were two different incidents of exchange of fire between police and the Maoists during combing operations between Malakondapenta and Racherla villages of Giddalur Mandal and at Darabylupenta in Eragondapalam Mandal in the district, police said.

The unidentified Maoists, including the woman, were killed in the first exchange of fire at Malakondapenta, while some others managed to escape. However, in the second firing incident no information of any casualty on either side was received, police said.

It was also reported that rocket launchers have been allegedly fired by the Maoists targeting police in the second incident, but there was no casualty at the police side, District Superintendent of Police Balasubramaniam said.

Police have launched massive manhunt against the Maoists in the area, the SP said.

Thirty wireless sets, three grenades, two country made rifles, one SBBL gun, seven CDs and cash of Rs 10081 was seized from the site of the first incident, police added.
