The favoured haunt of students looking for bargain-basement clothes, or the Tibetan rice brew (chhang), this well-known neighbourhood, located just a couple of kilometres from ISBT, is divided down the middle into the New Camp and Old Camp. The latter is grotty beyond redemption, but the New Camp's a middle-class colony where shops selling antiques, guest houses and visually unappetising restaurants do brisk business. Of the 40-or-so restaurants, most serve regular North Indian food with some Tibetan specialities thrown in. Besides beef and pork momos, you'll find beef, pork and vegetable stews and noodles, priced at Rs 25 a plate/bowl. Go there for the atmosphere more than the food.
