However, forest authorities have claimed the incident to be an accident.

Some shepherds spotted the body of the male tiger aged around 5-6 years old, in the well in an abandoned farm near Chitegaon village on Saturday and informed the forest officials of Saoli forest range.

Senior forest officials from Brahmapuri forest division claimed the incident as an accident, who fished out the body and sent for post-mortem, the official said.

The well had no parapet wall and it is likely that the big cat has fallen into it accidentally while chasing the prey, he said.

"We have also found a dead body of a fox in the well. It appears that while chasing the fox, both the animal fell into the well," he added.

After the panchanama and post-mortem, bodies of both the animals were cremated.
