Tight security at Delhi airport

Security at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) was further intensified on Friday after the Supreme Court upheld the decision to hang Parliament attack case convict Mohammad Afzal Guru.

The number of security personnel in the area has been doubled and all vehicles and passengers are being checked. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel as well as the Delhi Police men have been asked to apprehend anyone found in the area without proper authentication.

“Security had been already been heightened following the hijack alert few days back. We have further stepped up the measures and will review the security measures. The security blanket would be in place at least till the Republic Day celebrations,” said a senior CISF commandant.

Flights operating from gulf countries, Pakistan and Bangladesh are being closely monitored.

All baggages are being checked by the CISF. Random checking of baggage has also been intensified at the airport.

No vehicle is being allowed to stay near the airport for more than five minutes. Sniffer dogs have been deployed and a special check was being maintained at the parking lots too.

In the past two months, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has informed all the major airports in the country on two occasions to be on a high alert following inputs of hijacking by terrorist outfits if the death sentence of Afzal Guru is not commuted.
