To counter heavyweights like Sonia Gandhi, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati in view of the forthcoming assembly elections in the State, the BJP’s Kanpur units have proposed the names of Narendra Modi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Rajnath Singh and LK Advani.

However, the BJP leaders are of the view that of these, Narendra Modi may be expected to address public rallies out of the four proposed names. On Friday, the North City unit of the BJP sent another proposal demanding a public speech of Varun Gandhi along with a senior leader on the same day.

The proposal had been sent to the State BJP Kesari Nath Tripathi, said the party spokesman from the North City unit Anoop Awasthi. He said that the proposal was sent after a consensus was reached among the district BJP committee over the name of Varun Gandhi.

According to a senior leader, the rally is now expected to be held between September 5 and 10.
