PDP President Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on Friday said the Congress and his party must come together in forming a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir and is hopeful of a solution to the deadlock in their talks.
"Both forces have to come together to meet the aspirations of the people of the state and I am hopeful of the meeting. Let us see what happens," Sayeed told reporters at Srinagar airport before leaving for Delhi for his crucial talks with Congress President Sonia Gandhi and other top brass of the party.
Sayeed said PDP will try and resolve differences with the Congress which is a larger party.
He said the common minimum programme of the two parties has to be based on the aspirations of both of them with some reconciliation to give a good government to the people of the state.
"We will continue our efforts to give a good government to the state," Sayeed said.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Mangat Ram Sharma claimed in Jammu that the Congress can form a coalition government with the support of independents and other small groups and without the support of PDP. The Congress-led coalition governmet will have 40 MLAs, four short of the half way mark of 44, he said.
