Frustrated by the chronic delays plaguing the big-ticket infrastructure projects, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has urged the Haryana government to authorise the city mayor or municipal commissioner to clear city-specific proposals up to Rs 5 crore.
Presently, MCG proposals beyond Rs 1 crore are approved by the Haryana government. The proposals have to be screened by the financial commissioner-cum-principal secretary in Chandigarh, leading to long delays.
The issue was raised during a review meeting of civic and infrastructure work presided by Haryana chief secretary PK Choudhery on Friday. The city mayor, senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor as well as other top officials of MCG, Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) and city police attended the meeting.
“Any proposal worth more than Rs 1 crore gets stuck for approval at Chandigarh. If we can approve them at our level, the development work can speed up," senior deputy mayor Yashpal Batra told the chief secretary.
Choudhery assured the councillors that the government will soon find out "the feasibility of the idea".
"Projects worth Rs 30 crore for villages are pending approvals for nearly a year. Another project to widen the railway station road is stuck for approval for over three months. All this happens because we have to wait for approval from Chandigarh," mayor Vimal Yadav said.
