A two-and-a-half-year-old child, who had accidentally got locked in a car, was suffocated to death on Friday in Bhopal.

Deepak Nayak, who runs a garment shop in New Market area of Bhopal and lives at first floor of the same building, had gone to the temple along with his wife, mother and two-and-half-year old son Atishay at about 10am.

After returning from the temple, Nayak opened the shop and started performing pooja, while other family members went upstairs.

After around two hours, family members noticed that Atishay was not in the house. They began looking for him.

They later found that the child was lying unconscious inside the car that was parked in front of the shop and car was locked from inside.

The car was later opened by using a duplicate key and Atishay was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Police, however, did not get any information from the family about the incident.

They came to know about the incident only after the body was buried. Later, police registered a case and started investigation.

The preliminary investigation suggested that the boy had died due to suffocation, he said.
