A massive traffic jam was witnessed on the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) Flyway on Monday during peak hours.
Vehicles coming from Noida to Delhi piled up at the Ashram Crossing, leading to a massive six-kilometre-long jam till the toll plaza, said officials.
The Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited (NTBCL) had on Saturday made the flyway toll-free during peak hours till February 22 for people moving towards the national Capital from Noida.According to an DND official, no toll is being charged from 9am to 10am and from 5pm to 7pm. The decision was taken to prevent massive traffic congestion as the Noida-Delhi carriageway has been closed for repair work.
The move came after the Noida Police registered an FIR against Delhi Noida Direct Flyway (DND) officials on January 25, after a heart patient was caught in the jam.

{{/usCountry}}“A heavy volume of traffic was seen on the stretch, as commuters rushed to take advantage of the toll-free timings. As there was no halt, vehicles started piling up at the Ashram crossing up to the Noida toll plaza. Congestion continued till 11am. We encountered the same scene during the evening,” said a
DND official.
According to DND officials, nearly 100 additional security guards had been deployed at the flyway to manage the traffic. Besides three lanes had been added to avoid congestion.
The DND officials are yet to calculate the loss caused after the flyway was made toll-free.
According to an estimate, the stretch witnesses around 5,000 vehicles during peak hours.
