The toll in the July 20 fire mishap at a cracker unit near Tamil Nadu has risen to 15, with three more persons succumbing to burns, police said on Saturday.

The three died without responding to treatment at government and private hospitals on Friday night, they said. The condition of four others admitted to a private hospital was stated to be serious.
On July 20, seven persons were killed and 33 injured, 23 of them seriously, when a fire swept through the unit at
Namaskarichanpatti in Virudhunagar District. More than 200 people were working in the unit involved in making novel
fireworks items when the mishap occurred.
Meanwhile, the compensation of Rs 1 lakh, sanctioned by the government, and Rs 2 lakh each given by the factory management, was handedover to the relatives of the victims on Friday.
