MUNNABHAIS RESORTING to Gandhigiri broke down when senior officers of the district administration used unparliamentary language against them and the Father of the Nation at Hazratganj Police Station on Monday.

Reacting to a peaceful ‘Gandhi mode’ of protest as shown in the Hindi blockbuster Lage Raho Munnabhai by a few residents of Rana Pratap Marg for not giving them permission to hold Jagran, the Additional District Magistrate (City) Janardhan Barnwal got the protesters summoned at the office of the Circle Officer AS Rai and used unparliamentary language against them and Mahatma Gandhi in the presence of the print media.
“Gandhi…. chale gaye… Aulade chod gaye… do sau logon ko gadhon par baithakar bhejunga tumhare ghar… gulaab ke phool lekar….. tab pata chalega,” said the ADM.
On Monday morning over two dozen residents from the Rana Pratap Marg took out a peaceful march to the residence of the ADM at CMI Towers to know the reason for turning down the permission from the residents to hold jagran in the temple just opposite the controversial Model Liquor Shop, and a Country Liquor Shop.
Initially, Barnwal had granted permission to the residents to hold Jagran, but later on cancelled. The ADM said, “The area on which the permission was sought was a ‘disputed one’, and could have created a communal tension.” He further stated that the permission was cancelled only on the basis of a police report.
To register their protest against the cancellation of permission, the residents bought about 180 Kgs of flowers of different varieties, and marched to the residence of Barnwal. On the way they handed over a flower each to the passers-by. The residents had also carried a memorandum along with them.
Seeing no response from the ADM, the peaceful protesters gave flowers and memoranda to Additional City Magistrates — Anil Kumar Singh and Shubhrant Shukla.
However, Barnwal later denied to have used any unparliamentary language against anybody.
