The tourists were trapped after water released from upstream Linganamkki Dam across river Sharavathi inundated the area when they went to see the picturesque fall.

This is the eighth time tourists had got trapped in water while trying to reach the spot popularly known as "Mungaru Male" from where river Sharavathi splits into four different tracks and flows down from a height of over 800 feet, creating the Jog Water Falls.

The tourists were from Harihar in Davanagere district.

The Jog Falls, the highest in the country, is in its full flow since the opening of all flood gates of Linganmakki Dam on Saturday due to heavy rains in the catchments area of river Sharavathi.
