Traders protest against Trade Tax dept officials

A NUMBER of traders on Monday staged a massive demonstration at the Trade Tax office to register their protest against the death of a trader, Ram Lakhan Jaiswal, due to the alleged torture of some Trade Tax officials here on Saturday last. Traders took out a procession from Maidagin area and passing through various localities staged a demonstration at the Trade Tax office in Chetganj area. The agitated traders also strangulated the effigy of Trade Tax officials. They demanded stern action against the accused officials.

Traders took out a procession from Maidagin area and passing through various localities staged a demonstration at the Trade Tax office in Chetganj area. The agitated traders also strangulated the effigy of Trade Tax officials. They demanded stern action against the accused officials.

The agitating traders said they would launch a massive protest campaign to avoid any such incidents in future.

Major demands of the traders included compensation to the tune of Rs 10 lakh to the family members of the deceased trader, government job for a family member of the deceased trader and also to ensure that no such incident occurred in future.

Members of the Bhelupur Vyapar Mandal, Lanka Vyapar Mandal, Bhadaini Vyapar Mandal and Kashi Electric Association etc. also participated in the demonstration. Santosh Ojha, Santosh Gupta, Ravi Jaiswal, Gopal Sharma, Ram Bharat, Vikas Chaudhary and Kishan Kannaujiya were among others who addressed the demonstration.

It may be noted that a trader of the Lohatia area, Ram Lakhan Jaiswal died on Saturday when some employees of Trade Tax department forcibly made an abortive attempt to take him to their office for payment of pending tax.

A case was lodged against five officials of the department on the complaint of son of the deceased trader.
