The popular SMS alert service (9219592195), which the Gurgaon traffic police had started with much fervour on October 2010 has failed to deliver and reach to the masses. The traffic police have decided to revive it on the line of Delhi Traffic police.
The SMS alert service was started to tackle the traffic chaos in the city.
However, residents faced difficulty in registering. The commuters complained that despite several attempts to register themselves for the service, they did not receive any message from police. People also complained of problems being faced while activating the service.
“The SMS alert service was a two-way service in which a subscriber can send information about traffic movement and also receive traffic updates. The service could not be successful due to lack of manpower,” said a senior traffic police official.
“We will revive this SMS service and will make it user-friendly. The system will be useful both to the commuters and the police as it will be updated on mobiles,”said Bharti Arora, DCP traffic Gurgaon.
The service will alert commuters in general and motorists in particular, she added.
