Train services affected following Maoist threat

Train services between Rourkela-Bimlagarh section in Orissa's Sundargarh district were affected for about eight hours following Maoist threat, official sources said.

Train services between Rourkela-Bimlagarh section in Orissa's Sundargarh district were affected for about eight hours following Maoist threat, official sources said.

About twelve Maoists stormed into Bimalagarh railway station, about 160 km from Rourkela on Saturday midnight and threatened station manager, Santosh Kumar and other staff members to suspend train services or face the consequences.

Soon after they disappered into the nearby jungle.

Running of goods train, mainly used in this track to transport iron ore from the mining areas to Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) and other sponge iron plants in Sundargarh district were affected following the threat.

However, no damage to the track or other railway properties were reported due to the threat, railway police sources said.

Train services in the section has been restored this morning including plying of one passenger train and other goods train in the section, the sources adds.
