A sub-lieutenant of Navy — a trainee officer — was arrested in Sagar for stealing the jeep of a Navy commandant from a base hospital in Delhi on November 14.

The trainee officer was identified as Manmeet Singh. He was nabbed on Saturday evening. However, the matter came to light on Sunday.

Cant police station town inspector Ashok Shukla said, "Commandant Aman Sabbarwal, who was admitted at Base hospital in Delhi, had lodged a complaint at Naraina police station that his jeep had gone missing from the hospital. Later, Sabbarwal received a message from a Tata Service station of Sagar regarding servicing of the jeep. On being informed by Delhi police, a police team of Sagar nabbed Manmeet Singh with the jeep."

The officer has been booked under sections 379 of IPC and 41(1-D) of CrPC.

During interrogation, Manmeet told the police that he was also admitted at the Base Hospital, Delhi and he was not aware that it was not his jeep. Manmeet had come to Sagar to meet his friend.
