Three years after the announcement of a Transport Nagar, the Noida authority has finally started work on the multi-crore project to be developed on 26 acres of land in Sector 69.

Transporters in Noida have been demanding for a designated site of operations for the past several years. The project will not only benefit thousands of transporters, but also help decongest main roads, where these transporters usually park their vehicles at present.

In the first phase, the authority has released a budget of R50 lakh for laying the sewerage and drainage network, sheds and restrooms. “We aim to complete all these works within six months,” said AK Goyal, chief maintenance engineer, Noida authority.

“With a capacity to accommodate about 2,500 commercial vehicles at a time, the Transport Nagar will give a fresh push to industrial development in Noida. Delhi transporters can also take benefit of this facility,” said an authority official.

The authority decided to set up the Transport Nagar to put an end to traffic jams and prevent illegal parking of commercial vehicles on city roads. It will also develop dedicated roads, petrol pumps, hotels, space for shops and banks, public conveniences among others at the site of transport hub.

Vedpal Chaudhary, president of Noida Transport Association, said, “In the absence of a dedicated facility for commercial vehicles, traffic jams are witnessed across the city. Once the project completes, it will help solve the problem of traffic snarls and illegal parking in Noida.”
